Djenab Damavandi Book
Biography and Complete Works of Mohammad Falahi,
Known as Djenab Damavandi

About the Book "Djenab Damavandi"
This collection features the vocal works of the late Mohammad Falahi, famously known as “Djenāb Damāvandi”, a distinguished master of traditional Iranian singing during the Qajar and Pahlavi eras.
His gramophone records, produced in Tehran in 1912 and 1928 by Gramophone and Polyphon companies, have been meticulously compiled into 32 unique tracks. Djenāb Damāvandi personally selected the poetry for his songs, as he believed that a vocalist must not only master the intricate techniques and subtleties of traditional singing but also possess a profound understanding of Persian culture and literature.
Half a century after his passing, I, Kian Falahi (great-grandson of Djenāb Damāvandi), along with a dedicated team of young professionals, have undertaken the task of collecting his old records, performing audio restoration, transcribing the lyrics, and narrating the poetry sung by my great-grandfather. It is my hope that the result of years of effort will resonate with enthusiasts of authentic Iranian music. This release, coinciding with the production of a biographical documentary on Djenāb Damāvandi, aspires to provide a comprehensive response to the inquiries of music scholars, researchers, and students about the biography and discography of this artist, whose contributions have remained largely underappreciated among the general public in Iran.
