Song No 4: Mokhālef
On Thursday, October 17, 1912, the second day of Djenāb Damāvandi’s recordings on gramophone discs, the first piece recorded was Mokhālef, a subset of the Segāh mode. In this song, Mirzā Hossein Khān Esmāeil-zādeh accompanied Djenāb Damāvandi with his instrument, enhancing the singer’s rendition of a poem chosen from the works of his contemporary poet, Shāter Abbās Sabouhi Ghomi. The collaboration resulted in a beautifully preserved performance.

Mokhālef Lyrics
If the enemy kills me, I can tell it to my friend.
But who can I tell, that my friend has slain me?
