Song No 29: Ney-Dāvoud

Mortezā Khān Ney-Dāvoud delivered one of his most beautiful works in the piece named after him, accompanied by the unparalleled voice of Djenāb Damāvandi. The singer’s skill in linking the first line, a poem by Saadi, with the second line, a verse by Bābā Tāher, is a remarkable aspect of this piece. Additionally, the Bakhtiāri song at the end of the piece, where the singer smoothly transitions between different modes of the Shour, presents a mysterious narration of his years spent among the Bakhtiāri tribe.

Ney-Dāvoud Lyrics

I never thought you would be with me
But ultimately, I obtained you, O elusive beloved

Come and illuminate my room one night with your presence
For I’m submerged in sorrow and anguish due to the pain of separation
